Difference between acid reflux and stomach ulcer?

Hi I'm hoping someone can offer some advice.
My DH has been suffering from acid reflux for 3 years. He would wake with chest pains at night. He's been on lanzoprazole 15mg for roughly 2.5 years and has been fine, except he's really bad at remembering to get repeat prescriptions and has run out on a few occasions, and each time the pain returns.
He is 38, healthy bmi, doesn't smoke or drink excessively, but is stressed. His GF and DS both died from burst stomach ulcers and I'm worrying myself that this is what's wrong with him and docs won't investigate... Am I being silly?

I'd get a second opinion to be on safe side. Sorry can't be of more help. My husband has a chronic gastro disease we had to argue drs and eventually saw a decent one who listened keep ear bashing them the more its on record the stronger the case. If poss see out of hours Dr over bank holiday weekend. They may refer to a gastroenterologist
