DD fell down from the bed. I am so worried...

I feel awful. I never ever leave her unattended and I always keep an eye on her. DD was on our bed playing and I just turned away for a second (!) to bin the dirty nappy and .... ! She is 7 month now and she is very active. Of course she cryed (and me aslo)but then she seemed ok, frightened only. The bed is about 70 cm high and the floor is carpeted so it is quite soft. She does't have any bruises or any visible damage(THANKS GOD!) but... I keep thinking what if something bad happened...Please, tell me did anyone have similar experience? Will she be fine? It happened yesterday and she is in the good form today. Anyway I feel I am a lousy mother...

You're not a lousy mother - it's happened to most (if not all!) of us.

And she's fine - so stop beating yourself up about it.

Don't feel bad, its happened to loads of us, dd has fell of the bed a couple time, once when she was the same age as your dd, she will be fine, if she cried straight away that is a good sign.

Our bed is VERY high. DD went a v funny colour and didn't cry for a good minute or two. Thought I'd killed her, or at the very least done serious, longlasting damage...

but that was 5 years ago and she's absolutely fine. Put it down to experience and a good story to tell her when she's older. She'll love hearing it!

You're NOT a lousy mother. They don't stop falling over or off of things for years.

DT2 got whacked with a swing on one of the rare occasions I took the DTs to the park. Between them the DTs have fallen off of, over and under anything going. Beds, stairs, chairs, stools, tables (blimey.... sounds like a case for the NSPCC lol!). They seem to bounce.

The thing is.... it happens! To all of us! Doesn't make you a bad mum, but of course you worry, it's natural.

So... take a chill pill, stock up on plasters and magic kisses (amazing how a magic kiss can heal almost anything in children) and enjoy the fact that you are a lovely mum.

It's a pretty standard, although horrid, part of the parenting experience! :)

happened to me twice (both times at the in-laws as well, must be something about them) and I bawled both times and felt exactly like you.

she was absolutely fine. The crying straight away is a very good sign. just keep an eye on her. They really do bounce

When both of ours were small, my dh saying "he's going nowhere" as he put them down was the signal they needed to hurl themselves to the ground. Every time. Don't fret!

Mamulka - Don't worry. Ds did this twice, and I posted a thread on it because I felt so bad. Keep an eye on her in case she seems more sleepy than usual, in case of concussion, but I'll bet she's absolutely fine.

it really does happen to a lot of people... me included. i dropped (quite heavy) cordless phone on ds1's head when he was 5 days old. i was beside myself. v v nice hv told me not to worry unless obvious signs of something wrong after fall / bump to head... in partic. baby being sick / drowsier than usual / inconsolable screaming in pain / visible injury or if baby lost consciousness. they are designed to be quite tough or else human race would have died out long ago. dont beat yourself up.

ds rolled off our bed when he was just about 6 months old. it was the first time he rolled over like that! i called 999 and the first thing they asked me was if he was crying and he was! i had him checked out at the A&E anyway and he was fine, smiled the whole time at the nurses and doctor. luckily babies are hardy little things. just hang in there and dont beat yourself up over it. if you are still concerned, call your GP up, or if you dont want to go down that route, call NHS direct for advice. no one will report you. it was an accident.
