ovarian cysts, when should you worry?

Thanks to MN I have finally realised that the most likely reason for intermittent but pretty constant pain on my sides, followed sometimes by excruciating pain, and intermittent spotting, is likely to be cysts dealing with themselves.

Having been brought up by a DM who discounted any pain but hers, I have ignored them for years.

Should I do anything? Having Googled it seems to say that they mostly sort themselves out. I don't want to take up unnecessary time or worry about something perfectly ordinary.

I would go and see your GP and discuss it with them, even if you're worried about "bothering" them; at the very least they can sort out pain relief, or refer you for a scan to check you over.

Although common they are still worthy of a trip to see a Dr as there are loads of things that could be done (from painkillers as mentioned to surgery). It could also be worth having some blood tests in case the cyst are indicative of something like PCOS, or further investigations for endometriosis (my cysts are endometriomas which are part of my endometriosis).

You can't self diagnose ovarian cysts. See your GP for some proper investigations if you have pain.

I had a blood test to show raised risk of ovarian cancer..fine. I had a pelvic scan.fine. No idea why i have pelvic pain but glad i had the tests for reassurance.
