I had this quite badly as a child, I was wondering if it is possible to have it more than once. I was surprised when dd had chicken pox twice as I thought you were safe after contracting it.

Received opinion is that you can't. There are various measles-like viruses around, so that can confuse people (and doctors). But those who have had an illness confirmed by lab test to be measles simply don't get it again. And it's not so long ago at it was a common disease, and it really would have been noticed if immunity were not durable.

For chickenpox, they say it is rare but possible to have it twice.

Apparently I had it twice in childhood, last time aged 8 and quite severe. I also had rubella. Anyway, my mum swears I had it twice as that's what the doctor said.
