Why has my period come two weeks early?!

Not sure if this is common, but it's sure not for me! My cycle runs pretty much like clockwork, every 26 days, and has done for years. It even returned to exactly as it was before 5 weeks after DS1 and DS2 (despite bf till they were over 1, grrr).

So why has this month's come 14 days after my last one, why?! I've POAS just in case (not sure why, but it seemed like a sensible idea Smile) and it came out negative.

Anyone, anyone????

Hmmm weird. How old are you?

willyoulistentome · 13/04/2013 21:01

No idea, but waiting to see what answers you get cos the same happened to me a couple of months back. I'm 46 and wondered if it was something to do with hormones going ape.

Themobstersknife · 13/04/2013 21:03

This happened to me after a miscarriage in my early 40s. I think definitely hormonal imbalance.

sydlexic · 13/04/2013 21:04

It could be ovulation and not a period.

ivehadaverybadday · 13/04/2013 21:08

I'm only 38 so I'm hoping it's not the menopause Hmm Grin. sydelic it's certainly seems like a period, as it's much heavier than spotting. My periods have got shorter recently but they are always pretty short so there's not that much difference.

Mine did too yesterday. And it's really heavy. I think it's Mumsnetters synching.

Hey. MY periods are getting shorter too.

Yes mine was a proper period too.

I have been on MN a lot recently.

ivehadaverybadday · 13/04/2013 21:30

Imagine all that PMT at the same time. What are the Daily Mail going to say about that? Grin

I once got my period 6 days after it finished due to MIL putting me down constantly for 9 days while we stayed with her. DH was doing some DIY for her.

Wait till it is over, note if longer or shorter/heavier or lighter than usual. Then POAS again, just in case.

As you say periods have become shorter lately, it does seem like the peri-menopause. But better than them going on for much longer, which some women experience.

There is a hormone test called FSH used to diagnose the peri-menopause.

ivehadaverybadday · 13/04/2013 22:02

argh, now I'm Googling "Menopause" and "perimenopause". I'm far too young, surely?! Luckily I don't plan on having any more DC's but still, don't fancy the night sweats, hot flushes etc just yet.

My sis was on the pill from 30 -55 and sailed through the menopause without knowing she had it.

digerd · 14/04/2013 17:17

ps
And she looked 20 years younger at 55. Came off the pill, no more periods no menopause symptoms, but did age rapidly afterwards.
Still looks 10 years younger, though.

lastnightidreamt · 14/04/2013 17:20

I have had this happen once and it was during a time of extreme stress. Could that be relevant to you?

When I googled it, I found that stress was the most likely cause.

willyoulistentome · 14/04/2013 17:49

It could be stress for me for sure. I am going through a very difficult time at the moment. One that I can't see ever being resolved.

oopsadaisymaisy · 15/04/2013 15:12

I was 37 when I started peri, its not at all unusual. Stress could be a factor.
