Age spots

Is there anything I can do about them? I've got one which is probably about the size of a 5p right in the middle of my left cheek and a smaller but darker and quite prominent one above my left eyebrow. I've had them for donkey's years but feel more conscious of them now. I don't know if that's because they're getting darker or if I spend more time peering at my age-ravaged face.

I've tried using cream to lighten age spots but it's had no effect whatsoever. Is there anything I can do about them or are they just part of growing old?
