my dd aged 2 is 10 days into a primary infection of the cold sore virus. She has just started to eat a little today, but her gums seem to bleeding even more in bed tonight. Has anyone any advice on how long this lasts before completely clear.

NOt sure, but if it gets bad go to the doctor, they can give oral acyclovir for herpes. It's considered to be a very safe drug- even by alternative practitioner types- ds1 had it- the drug- at 11 months (he had eczema herpeticum which can be very serious). I think its quite expensive which may be why they don't use it standardly (or maybe it affects the immune response - not sure- there may be a medical reason they don't give it) - but worth asking about if your little girl carries on in lots of pain.
