Waiting for test results - would yr GP practice email or text?

Long story short:

Had blood test on Friday. And going back to GP On Thursday because she's concerned I'm either depressed or have anxiety disorder. She may be right. But have physical symptoms that I am very worried about.

Thing is, we're off on uk holiday on good Friday, returning the following Friday.

So I'm worried (anxious) that results won't be back before we go and if there's a problem, I won't hear from surgery until late on the Friday we come back.

I was thinking that I could give the surgery my email address. Thinking about it, texting not really possible as almost zero reception.

But not sure whether this is something that a GP surgery would do. So might be pointless asking, and while I could ask on Thursday, if is something that surgeries don't generally offer, am trying to avoid the anxiety of explaining why it would be good if they could email me if I want to contact them.

pooka what are your symptoms? if you don't mind me asking.

Ragwort · 24/03/2013 19:36

Agree with Lunatic - what will you do if it is 'bad news'? Surely it is far better to wait until you get back, get the results and deal with it. You are seeing the doctor on Thursday, talk it through with her and ask if a week could really make a difference.

ananikifo · 24/03/2013 19:50

I would be surprised if they agree to email you test results. It would almost certainly break information governance rules. Could you not phone the surgery while on holiday and ask for your results? If they don't have your results on Thursday, could you make a phone appointment for the next week?

I know I'm being ridiculous!

I really don't know what difference it would make, apart from I think that if nothing showed up on blood tests, I'd be more inclined to believe that symptoms are psychosomatic or anxiety related. And might be able to control it more.

Prettyanddainty - stomach aches, spasms, nausea. Veer from feeling bloated and constipated to having diarrhoea. Entirely possible that could be stress related/IBS. This has hands down been the worst end of year/new year ever. But whereas years ago I took things more in my stride, now I just can't seem to. and while I've just been getting on with it in recent months, suddenly I'm imagining hideous things that could be wrong with me (much of the stresses have related to illnesses in loved ones, bereavement and so on). Thnk am just very tired.

I suppose best thing would be if (fingers crossed) blood test ok. Can wait for ultrasound. And just see what GP thinks about my mood.

Thanks for replies. I'm actually finding that talking to myself about how I'm feeling is helping, and actually just typing this and op out has too. Dh lovely but just makes suggestions re: solutions to whatever is worrying me (financial woes, feeling like hibernating etc). Which tends to make me not want to talk about it any more! :). He never worries. Maybe I should be worried about that Wink

Phone on Monday and ask will you be able to get the results. The thing is its just a list if numbers so not really much use unless you can interpret them.

prettyanddainty · 24/03/2013 20:01

pooka it must be very hard, one always thinks the worst, but try and relax and enjoy your holiday, hope the results are good and all clear.

pooka · 24/03/2013 20:04

Thanks. :)

Never used to get so edgy. Honest guv.
