CT Scan after a normal ultrasound?

Hello, just after some advice about my DH.

He had an abdominal ultrasound in Janaury after unexplained weight loss and vague abdominal pain. The sonographer told him that everything looked normal and this was confirmed at a follow-up appointment with a doctor. The doctor said that she has no idea why he lost weight, neither she or his GP seemed too worried so it looks like he hasn't got anything scary.

However, he is having a CT scan on Friday. Why would this be? Just to be thorough? (DH never asks these questions!) Am a trifle scared that he could have cancer but I do have anxiety and am apt to catastrophise.

Thanks

Hi. I think they are just being really thorough. I had a similar situation re ct scan and was a bit worried why they wanted to do one when Dr not worried. It is really good that it will put your mind at rest though. DS1 is a Dr and, believe me, they would not say everything ok if they thought he had cancer. Also, they would definitely not leave it from January to mid March to follow up with CT scan if cancer suspected. Try not to worry - easier said than done I know :)

Thank you for your great post, mumof3teens. I suppose that a doctor looking into weight loss combined with no obvious cause would want to do all they can to get an answer. It is hard not to worry, but i am trying Grin
