painful lump in armpit

can anyone put my mind at rest. I went to the Drs about a month ago as I had a chest infection. While there I mentioned to her that I had a small lump in my armpit that was really painful. She looked and said that it wasn't inflamed, if it got any worse to go back and maybe have antibiotics. It seemed to disappear on its own a day or so later.
At work last night, started get sharp pain again in the same place, and found that the lump is back. Should I be worried?????

it is most probably an inflamed gland .. (like the kind you get on your neck with a sore throat) .. head to the gp on monday and get it checked .. but don't worry unduly today Smile

swollen lymph node I meant .. lymph nodes are connected to immune system so its probably your body fighting a virus

Having been referred to the consultanat about pain in my armpit I was told that cancerous lumps are VERY rarely painful. I would go back but only to get peace of mind. It does sound as if it is linked to your immune system as Twiglett says.

Totally agree with Yafta and Twiglett, swollen lymph nodes are incredibly painful.
Would definately go to GP tho for peace of mind, and hopefully something to take the pain away!

i get these all the time. just like cysts. they come and go and i can move them around when i press on them. sometimes feel painful.

I get these, well mine are infected sweat glands and can be quite nasty, needed antibiotics to clear them up. Unfortunately they are reoccuring and can be quite nasty, I had such a high temp last time i thought I was a car and that people were looking under my bonnet to find out what was wrong with me!! That said they could just be swollen glnads due to infection elsewhere or cysts. Don't think you should worry too much Smile

I get these just before my period - every month, and whilst I was pregnant.

There like very painful spots or boils under the skin, under my armpit, they last about 4 days.

It started when I started clomid. Drs all seem baffled.

Anyone any ideas?

(sorry for hijack)

The glands seem the most likely, I feel as though someone has kicked me in the groin too. I think maybe it would be easier to go to the vets and get put down. Blush
