DP has it quite badly on his elbows and we are looking for something which is really effective rather than wasting small fortunes on crap creams!!

I have a friend who has it so bad all over that she has to go for uv treatment at hospital when it is particularly bad. She thinks that elizabeth arden 8hr cream works quite well or failing that juice from an aloe plant.

Hope you sort it soon Smile

I would suggest going to your GP. I have had psoriasis since I was a wee baby. They prescribed eumovate which is great stuff.
It is thought to be stress related, and I know mine flares up when I am stressed, so perhaps some r and r?

Years back I used to sell a ointment called Dovonex which was for plaque prsoriasis, which is what it sounds like your dp has. But it's only available on prescription.

What's plaque psoriasis? We went to the docs with it a couple of years ago and he was given some cream which reduced it a bit but never really got rid of it.

It's not over a wide area, just a big patch right on the end of his elbow of white skin which is quite built up and bleeds if he knocks it or picks it (which he's a real pain for doing!)

My dh uses Dovonex (available on prescription from GP). His psoriasis is pretty prolific, and it does help, but he's still left with red marks when he's using it.
The best remedy he found was UV treatment (arranged by a dermatologist). However he can't have this again for a while due to the risk of skin cancer.

Is dovonex in a green & white tube? When we were talking to the pharmacist we were trying to remember what he was prescribed

yep - think so

chonky · 07/05/2006 13:29

Sounds like it is. Dovonex comes in a green and white tube (cream), and blue and white tube (ointment). Same stuff essentially, just slightly different application.

zephyrcat · 07/05/2006 13:40

Yep that must be the one thank you!

mahonia aquifolium from Taylor-Jackson (they have a website) is good stuff. Cream, ointment and scalp treatment too.

Have you tried aloe vera gel as a drink which is also supposed to help.

just been looking through the threads and spotted this one. I get mild eczema and was searching for something to use while pregnant and found an Aussie cream called Hope's Relief.
Its brilliant!!! Has also helped my daughter who sometimes gets dry skin in her arm creases.

I got mine from \link{www.planetblueshop.com \planetblueshop.com}
