Having read some horror stories in the last week about the preparation for a sigmoidoscopy using picolax I thought I would post an alternative experience. Whilst the picolax didn't taste nice, it was manageable. Unlike others it took about 90 mins before I had to go to the toilet and I didn't have to run! Whilst pooing was not a great experience, it was no worse than any other time i have had loose stools. It maybe helped that I am regular anyway and went before taking the picolax; but other than spending until this morning having to go, it was only a bit at a time and not horrific.
Of course, I'm yet to have the tube stuck up my bum but having had an initial investigation I'm not sure how bad it can be!?
My point for those who read is that it wasn't fun - I have a sore bum; but it was not the horror story that I have previously read about.
