Tonsilitis and penicillin

I had tonsilitis quite badly last week (vomiting, throat like swallowed glass etc) and was prescribed penicillin by out of hours nurse; it started working straight away almost and I finished the course on Sunday. Could feel there was still a twinge but mostly cleared up.

Since stopping the course of penicillin, the sore throat has almost immediately come back, at first just "feeling the swollen tonsil" now a bit painful. Should I go back to GP as penicillin obviously worked but didn't get everything (sorry for non-medical language, am not very clued up). Or should I wait until it really hurts (eg can't eat or sleep) again?

I don't like to bother GP with a sore throat but on the other hand one time I hung on without going and developed a quinsy which was not nice. So am not sure.

I did take all the penicillin as instructed, finished the course, empty stomach etc. I may have lost a dose to vomiting but that was all.

Yes definitely go back, it's quite common to need more than a week of meds to get rid of it.

Oh, is it? Thank you, I didn't know. I will get on the repeat dial at 8am then.

Thanks for replying.
