I have a cold sore under my lip which just won't go :( I've had it for a week. I get them usually about twice a year and have done for years. Usually stress related or when I've been ill. Just getting over flu and one has landed.... Tried usual Zovirax, lysine (from the herbalist) Carmex etc. it's bright red and horrible. It looks like its healing a bit then at night time it seems to get worse again and sore and cracked etc. any ideas it looks horrible :( and it's sore :(

do you eat peanuts?

chocolate and peanuts can trigger attacks, i always brace myself these days when biting into a snicker!

what about good old sudocrem at night to help?

Don't ever kiss a baby when you have them .especially a new born. It can kill a tiny one.

I know about the baby thing.... Worry

worryingly my midwife kind of laughed my concerns off three years ago when I had my own seven week prem baby....

Someone recommended crushing up a lysine capsule and applying it directly to the sore, as well as taking lysine day.

I haven't tried it though. Worth a go.

Also, get as much sleep as possible and eat really well, stay relaxed. Makes a big difference.

*lysine daily

I always use the patches. Find they work really well and theres no scabbing and cracking. Heals quicker too.

Thanks for your replies, there is no magic cure I know but this one is do sore and won't heal, probably as I've been run down with flu virus for 2 weeks. Definitely going to go and get some lysine tablets from the herbalist and start taking them daily. I've got a patch on at the moment which is releaving the pain a little :) thanks x

Another vote for Compeed plasters. Once the plaster's on, I can forget the coldsore is there at all. Takes the pain and the sort of "bubbling" effect away completely.
