Really bad chesty cough - any ideas?

I have a really chesty cough that I have has about 2 weeks, coughing up phlegm and really starting to hurt now.

I went to the doctors and they say it's probably a virus and to just wait until it passes. Anyone have any ideas how to get rid of it or ease it at all?

I should also mention I'm 28 weeks pregnant so can't take the usual cough medicines etc
