Cervix may be receding - what does it mean (TMI within)

I've just been referred to the hospital because my cervix may apparently be receeding.

My symptoms have been lots and lots of mucus (filled up the speculum today, grim), some general aching in that area and my cervix apparently looks red. Two recent smears have been normal but I do have group b strep.

I've tried googling but I can't really see much about this? What can it mean? Should I be worrying about cancer?

Are you sure it's a receding cervix and not cervicitis (an infected cervix)? Where could it possibly be receding to?! It's the entrance to your uterus. It sounds infected to me - discharge, redness and discomfort, plus you already know you have group b strep (may be an uncommon cause of cervicitis, but I don't see why it couldn't cause it).

The doctor didn't mention cervicitis at all, just that it might be receding (hence the redness) and she is going to refer me to a gynaecologist. I will look that up though, thanks :)

Maybe the doctor meant receding like receding gums?!... receding gums are commonly caused by bacteria, too...

I presume so. It sounds horrible whatever it is [Confused]
