How long should I wait for results from a colposcopy biopsy?

It's 3 weeks tomorrow since I had my LLETZ under GA and I am desperate to get any results now. The consultant said he would be in touch either by post or phone but I've had nothing.

What is the norm and can I assume no news is good news? Should I ring Gynae and ask them for the results? I'm worrying and I want to get off the edge now. It's been a long few weeks.

Anyone know?

My df waited four weeks for womb biopsy result and that was negative. Bad news travels fast as it would have been flagged up in the lab to act on if anything untoward has been found.

If you're in the UK you should get your results within 4 weeks. I'd suggest giving the secretary a ring. The standard is to get the results whatever they show, and you can't assume the no news is good news.

Sorry monkeycrzy but you cant assume that. Until the sample has been examined nobody knows what it shows. Theres no way of knowing until that point, and so if theres a backlog of cases it doesn't mean anything not to have heard yet.

One reason results do get back quicker is if they are on a cancer pathway or if the clinician is concerned and marks the request card as a possible cancer.

I really really do hope that no news is good news. It was a biopsy for an abnormal smear. I shall have to hope that it's just a lab backlog.

Hi, sorry I should have been clearer that the standard I referred to is for histology done as part of the cervical screening programme. Because your LLETZ is part of the screening programme they are supposed to get your result to you within 4 weeks.
