Osteoporosis - should she ask for screening?

My dsis is 34 and has had 2 children.

She is 5' 2" and weighs about 16 stone.

I the last 2 years she's broken each ankle from relatively simple falls. The first one she slipped down the bottom two stairs and this latest one she slipped off the edge of a normal side curbstone.

Is it normal to fracture so easily from low level falls or do you think she should ask to be screened to check her bone density?

I've broken my wrist 3 times and various fingers so was sent to see a consultant.

He advised taking calcium supplements but nothing else. He said that there was no point doing any bone density measurements as the treatment if they did find anything wrong was not possible to give until after the menopause.
He also said it was unlikely that there was anything wrong, that some people are just naturally unbalanced Blush Confused

I'm sure your sister is fine - although sounds like she might be a bit off balance too?!

She a bit off balance in many ways if you ask me!!! Wink

That's interesting to hear that treatment wouldn't start until after the menopause if anything was found. Perhaps I won't worry her by saying anything.
