Have had mastitis before but never this bad. I can't stop shivering and trembling and shaking but my body is hot. Have taken paracetamol 2 hours ago. Is there anything else I can do? Head is splitting and obviously breast is very sore. I have expressed as much from it as I can to try to clear the blockage.

I just feel so lousy and can't stop this shaking!

Have you got some antibiotics from the GP?

breadandhoney · 28/02/2013 15:26

Have ordered them but they won't be ready til tomorrow!

The shivering and shaking is the fever. You can take 2 ibuprofen now and 2 paracetamol in another 2 hours.

GP - antibiotics. They work really quickly for mastitis and you can still b/f. My lovely GP used to let me pick up a prescription straight from reception, so no waiting around for an appt. Worth a try?

Pascha · 28/02/2013 15:29

and if you can, take a shower and put yourself to bed.

TheMouseLookedGood · 28/02/2013 15:29

Sorry - cross posted. Why won't they be ready until tomorrow??

Really? You need them NOW if at all possible.

I had mastitis. It was terrible. You can take ibuprofen and paracetamol concurrently, that will help keep the fever down. Just the normal doses at the normal intervals until the max number of tablets per day. Nurse as much as possible.

I called reception and she has to wait for GP to sign script at the end of the day. DM is taking DD1 to GP this afternoon so she is going to ask if she can get a script on my behalf. Can I take ibuprofen when bf?

Am at home with dd2 who is about to wake from her nap and need my attention. So no hope of bed Im afraid. Will be doing as little as possible though. My head is throbbing and in starting to feel sick too Sad

Yes you can take Ibuprofen when BFing. Keep drinking lots of fluids, it might help the headache.

breadandhoney · 28/02/2013 15:42

Thank you. Will take ibuprofen now.
