Hi I am 50 and suffer with bile due to a problem in stomach, have taken esomeprazole for many years and during the last week have felt pains across my chest behind breastbone, this only comes on in evening, has in fact just started and is constant during the evening, I also feel like I need to burp but do not, at first thought it might be a too tight bra, but has different style on today so not that. Will go to docs, but as it is right across top of chest not sure if it is heart related. Any ideas appreciated please

It may be related to your stomach problem but it could be heart related. The typical heart pain is a tight or pressing pain across the chest, sometimes also with an ache in the throat or left arm. You can also be breathless with it or feel dizzy. However, many people, especially women, can have variations on this, so please do go to your GP soon to get checked out. In the meantime, if you get the pain and it is not settling with simple painkillers or getting worse, go to A&E please - better safe than sorry!

It might be inflammation of the chest wall - costochondritis - when the attachment of the ribs to the sternum can get inflamed. I think I might have this at the moment - as I'm recovering from a cold, and coughing might have triggered it.
Anyway, see what your GP thinks, chest pains should always be checked out.
