Dental exemption expiry

My nhs maternal exemption certificate runs out on Friday. I've been to my nhs dentist today and need a filling which will be after my cert runs out. I'm a bit confused though when I got home they have given me an invoice for the treatment they are going to do and it says its all free. How can this be when I am going after my certificate runs out?

As long as treatment starts before expiry(ie a follow on to your check up ) it should be covered.

Thanks for that I didn't realise that was the case.
