charliecat · 02/05/2006 10:58

Ahhhhhhhhhh, but how many fags have you not smoked? You will soon feel fresh, fina nd alive and glad to be free of the evil weed.
Honestly. Dont go back to them just because you dont feel good yet, you will.
Promise.

NotAnOtter · 02/05/2006 10:59

it will come and soon!

charliecat · 02/05/2006 10:59

I would say at 3 weeks I was still having to lead myself away from ashtrays with my tongue hanging out, and waking up wondering if today would be the day it felt good :)

nailpolish · 02/05/2006 10:59

so it is normal then.......

ive even had to go to the chemist and get some senna, ive never been constipated in my life before

and theres something about 3 weeks thats a sort of...dunno turning point...and 3 months cant quite put my finger on what it is, but its there.
And you feel grim but your body is expelling years of crap.
Its detoxing and you WILL feel fresh and fine and fantastic and you should be so so so so proud of yourself:)

charliecat · 02/05/2006 11:01

LOL, yep, I think nicotine, or something in the fag is a laxative...so...LOLGrin

LadyTophamHatt · 02/05/2006 11:03

My mum went through this when she gave up (after 40+ years)

She was ill more ofetn and all sorts of ailmants started appearing.

Appaently(according to my Sister) nicotine has antibacterial qualities and once you stop all these thing it kept at bay start appearing.

Not sure how long it last TBh, my mum doesn't seen to be ill as much now but it's been a while since she quit.(maybe 6 months)

Don't give up giving up. Just think how much more money you have, how much better you smell....how much better your house and children smell because IME it doesn't matter if you smoke outside or away from them they still smell of fags.
YUK!

Cappucino · 02/05/2006 11:08

don't give up!!!

I gave up seven years ago and it was the best thing I ever did

beer helps with constipation Grin

FrannyandZooey · 02/05/2006 11:09

It is really normal and it is so unfair, isn't it? I felt like death each time I gave up and I'm afraid I had some real corkers of coughs and colds for quite some time. All I can say is, it IS worth it. Waking up each morning not even thinking about having a cigarette, knowing you smell nice and not having to worry about how to pay for your next pack, it is all wonderful.

Well done you for getting this far and do stick it out :)

nailpolish · 02/05/2006 11:10

no, im not going to give up

just a bit disappointed and impatient thats all

agree about fags being laxative - i always went for a poo immediately after 1st fag of the day, LOL!

Are you putting the money saved into a pot for you to spend on something nice?

Prune juice for bowels!

I gave up when I found out I was pregnant with dd1 so had morning sickness as well as nicotine withdrawal, so it all blended nicely into one big barf-fest.

charliecat · 02/05/2006 11:28

another mumsnetter put the money in a jar and went on holiday now THAT is incentive :)

BettySpaghetti · 02/05/2006 11:33

Stick with it nailpolish! Its definately worth it.

Think of the money you're saving and how you can spend it elsewhere.

Congratulate yourself for getting this far -you're over the physical addiction! Give yourself a treat.

nailpolish · 02/05/2006 13:12

OO i did the same with dd1 (then started again on first day back at work) and AGAIN with dd2. but it seemed different those times, i had huge reasons to stop (and didnt actually fancy a fag when pg)

but its somehow different this time, cant explain. much much worse and more difficult

OP posts:
nailpolish · 02/05/2006 13:13

OH GOD - I'm on day 5 and thought I was doing well - no cravings, finding it very easy - what have I got to look forward to??!!
I was smoking about 30 a week - but went away to France with g/friends for a long weekend last week (kids and DH's abandonded!!) and smoked for England - must have had about 20 a day - vowed to give up on return (along with most of the friends too)and it has been OK til I read this thread! Never had a problem giving up when pg and stupidly started again!
