Methotrexate & nausea

I've been on MTX for years & had my dose increased to 17.5mg in June. However since Christmas I've suffered really badly with extreme nausea on the day after taking it.

I used to get the nausea very badly in the beginning & be completely knocked out by it, but this had improved. I take it in 2 split doses about an hour after dinner. Any one know got any ideas why nausea has started up again? It's getting to the point where I'm dreading taking it. Lovely dh though bringing me breakfast in bed so there are some advantages.

Do you have tablets or injections? My mum finds the injections not as bad, but often still feels rubbish the day after.

I take 20mg weekly and the last time it was upped from 17.5 to 20 had nausea for a couple of days after taking it but this week i didn't.
How much folic acid are you taking? I seamed to remember reading that the side affects are lessons by the folic acid.
Also I was told to take it first thing in the morning, so I don't know wether that would make a difference.

I second asking to up your folic acid
I found when I upped my dose from 20 to 25 it made me nauseous when I'd been fine prior to that. I spoke to my dr about it and we decided to go back down & supplement with another drug. After a few trys I'm now on MTX with Humira. Dr said there was no point in being so nauseous I didn't take the mtx at all, so we looked at it again.

I take 25mg everyweek (tablets) and 5mg folic acid every day except the one I take the mtx on. I sometimes get times where I feel very sick the following day, though usually when I am already/otherwise 'run down' a bit anyway.

Are you feeling in general good health otherwise?

Thanks everyone. Yes I'm pretty much ok most days. Waiting for referral back to hospital as GP thinks I would be better off on humira with less MTX. Take 5mg folic acid 3 times a week may see GP to see if I increase folic acid will improve nausea. It's weird that I've been fine for 6 months after increased dose & only feeling rough now.

Sorry meant to add its tablets not injections - will look into that as an alternative.
