Abnormal bleeding

My periods have been pretty regular, but this time it started four days early and now I am 'spotting' up to a week after my period stopped, so making it last for two weeks!

Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions on the cause?

Also, should I be making an appointment with my Doctor?

Any unusual bleeding should be checked out, even if just to put your mind at rest.

Yes, do see the GP. Any bleeding in between periods should be reported to the GP.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply.

I did wonder if it was the start of the menopause as I am early 40s, but as suggested I will phone the doctors today to try and get an appointment for next week.

My dsil had this. Turned out it was a uterine polyp that needed removal. Apparently very common.

Yes - see the GP. But I'm the same age as you and my periods have begun to go a little bit mad too. I had a whole extra one in the middle of last month which alarmed me no end - but all blood tests, swabs and smears came back normal. The GP said this kid of thing is to be expected at our age as our bodies begin to shut down that side of the business!

On all your suggestions, I phoned the doctors on Friday, but the earliest I can see a lady GP is 6 March!

I do hope it is the menopause and not anything else.
