Salty mouth!

I have since Monday had the most awful taste of salt in my mouth. Can't shake it, driving me nuts. Doctor says it's not the medication I'm on, can't get a dentist appointment until middle of next month. Dr also says anything serious would be more obvious. I'm going nuts and I'm sick of drinking salty coffee! Any advice welcome, please!
(I have a very low salt diet, so it isn't that).

Wouldn't happen to be antibiotics, would it?

Because if it is, then that probably is the cause, no matter what your doctor says. I always get salty spit when I'm on antibiotics - particularly any of the penicillins.

It's nasty - you have my sympathy.

Oh - and when I got it, I Googled for hours looking for some life-threatening cause of salty taste and couldn't find one. Hope that's some consolation :)

No, no antibiotics. Tis really pissing me off, salty tea, salty coffee. It's awful. Oh, and if you eat anything sweet (marshmallows) it's disgusting!

I had this last year and turned out to be oral thrush. I use a steroid inhaler for asthma and I hadn't been rinsing my mouth out after using it. I bought some gel from pharmacist and it cleared up in a few days.

Is there any chance it could be this? Not sure what, if any, are other symptoms of it. I only had the salty mouth and it drove me mad too!

I shall try tomorrow Rose and let you know, Thank you!

Oh good grief, Pod! I hope you're better now, and would you keep it to yourself please, tonsilitis is about the only thing that floors me.

I had this once years ago, it's the most irratating feeling. I remember mentioning it to the doctor while I was there about something else and she was totally uninterested and had no suggestions.

Eventually it just went away - not much help, sorry
