Group B Strep (not pregnancy related)

TMI alert!!

I have recently been experiencing extremely profuse cervical mucus and saw the doctor about it. She did a swab and had a look and said that my cervix is red. She wasn't sure if it was hormonal (?) and seemed concerned that I've not had my periods back since having DD (16 months) despite knowing I'm still breastfeeding. She made an appointment for a scan and another with her in three weeks to see if my cervix is still red. She said she'd refer me to a gynaecologist then if it still was.

The doctor left a message on my mobile today asking me to call about the swab results. I didn't get the message until ten mins before the surgery shut and got cut off half way through and couldn't get signal again (was on the train). I'll have to call back tomorrow.

Basically what I heard from the receptionist was that the dr had a prescription for me and that I have Group b strep and would always be a carrier for it. Fair enough. I've been googling though and cant really work it out. It seems there is just being a carrier of GBS and then there is an actual GBS infection? So presumably if I need a prescription I have both?? Google says the latter is normally only seen in adults when there are other complications, like immune system problems (eeek!)..

Does anyone know anything about this? Have I got that right?
