My mum had a mammogram as she's 50+ and she got a letter saying she needed to go for another , she never actualy told me what the letter said but she just told me she needed another scan. They said it would take 2 weeks for another but they got her an appointment for tomorrow! (2 days later) I'm so worried!! My mam can't actualy feel a lump so I suppose that's positive I'm just so worried for her! Anyone experienced this??? Truthfull answers please.

She could have cancer, but the chances are she will not.

I held a friend's hand through the recall process last year and she was fine. It was very stressful while it was going on, but she was fine.

Hold that thought. There are all sorts of reasons why they recall, starting with not getting a clear picture the first time.

Meganlillymai · 18/02/2013 16:21

I suppose that could be the reason but 2 days later is very quick. I'm being posistive around her but really I'm so worried for her. I'm 22 and I'm the stronger one out of my older brother and sister who are both in there 30s they would break down as would my dad who has alcohol problems most of my life. I just don't no what to think. She has had grissel before so I'm hoping its just that!

Yes.
No lump, but something showed up on the 1st mammogram and was calcified cells in a cluster which has a 20% chance of being in the very early stages of abnormal cells or malignancy. On the recall 5 biopsies were taken under local anaesthetic, and 8 days later the results were all benign. The appt was for the day after the letter for recall arrived. They are taking no risks by ignoring it.
Hope that is what your mum has.
Good luck

Please don't worry - my Mum has had lots of scares before, that all turned out to be false alarms. There are loads of things that it could be, so take some deep breaths and don't panic. It's great that they are taking such good care of her and not taking any chances. Big hug from me XX

Meganlillymai · 18/02/2013 22:14

Yeh she can't feel any lumps she's checked her lympth nodes and there all normal so I'm a bit more positive now. I'm 22 and from as far back as I remeber I've always worried about getting cancer, andow that my mams açtualy going through a cancer scare its scarier then ever. Will give u all an update after her scan tomorrow if I no anything thankyou all so much!

Feels good to have people to talk to even if it is over a chat board. She seems positive. She ad it's she's worried but she would be ignorant not to be worried I suppose. Such a scary time.

She's bound to be worried and you too, but it's good news that she's being thoroughly checked out. Good luck for tomorrow Thanks

Feel so releived! Now I'm worrying about a lump I've found under my jaw!! Lol think its a small lymph node though as I've had a cold ??

I get those if I have a bit of a gum/tooth infection, but is usually one of the large glands in the neck and it pulls when I lift my chin up.

Meganlillymai · 19/02/2013 13:30

No this is small just under my jaw on the side and its squishy I think n very mobile

marriednotdead · 19/02/2013 13:54

That's normal, it swells a bit if you've got a cold or are not well. I know it's easy for me to say but try not to panic! Smile

marriednotdead · 19/02/2013 13:55

Glad your mum's ok too.

digerd · 19/02/2013 16:24

If it's soft and feels as if it has fluid in it, that most likely means it is cyst of some kind - not cancer. GP will know.

Meganlillymai · 19/02/2013 16:37

Thanks for support about mum she's absolutely fine she's spoiled herself today shes so happy as we all are. Yes it feels soft cant get a good hold on it as it's small and moves a lot! Lol
