I need to stop. Does anyone else have this pulling out hair obsession? Any advice on stopping would be gratefully received before I have a really noticeable bald patch at the front of my head.

DD2 (age 2) has it. She has had it for as long as I can remember. She has bald patches all over her hair. I once shaved it (on the advice of the doctor) and she pulled at her eyelashes Sad. It breaks my heart because people talk to me like I am the cause of it or I don't do enough to stop it. I have no experience of it in adults though

Wow, I am sorry she has it. It's definitely not your fault. It's possible that she has initially started it by accident & then realized how good it feels! I know that must sound really weird, but for me its like an itch that must be scratched. I also pull out eyelashes too.
I have just been googling it & its not uncommon. But I've been doing it since I was a young adult & this is the first time I've sought help.
I really feel for you as I don't know what you can do to help a 2 year old. Redirection? A swimming hat? I'm planning on getting a shower cap or something. I'm thinking that anything is worth a try. Good luck.

My daughter had this from age 2 till about 6, we were referred to a psychologist who did lots of work about why she did it and how she felt when doing it. She told us it was her naughty fingers fault and drew a horrendous picture of a creature that lived on the end of her finger, apparently this helps as she wasn't to blame and we would blame the finger.

On a more practical note I kept her hair short and well conditioned so it was harde
to get hold of to ppull.

I would go to gp and ask for referral
