Adults with coughing asthma

Inspired by reading another thread about asthma I thought I'd ask what you use to help the cough?
I was diagnosed with asthma aged 9, because I wheezed and was short of breath. Anyway, inhalers weren't around much then and I was given pills that worked really well.
I then moved onto the classic brown inhaler / blue inhaler routine.
As I grew up the wheezing was less frequent but the coughing even after the most minor of colds continued.

There have been several trips to the Dr / Nurse over the years with advice to increase doses use the brown inhaler more etc etc.
Anyway, I decided to 'test' the brown inhaler and used a large dose for a long time only to find that my peak flow didn't improve. Also felt queasy.
Also I have found that the blue inhaler does nothing for the cough, it lasts as long as if I hadn't taken it, ie just as much coughing.

So although ime the blue inhaler helps with the wheezing still on the rare occasion I need it, it doesn't help the cough but sucking a sweet does.

I would love to hear others' experiences and if there is anything different I should try?

Have you been on the steroid inhaler Symbicort - ingredients 200mcg Budesonide/Formoterol?

Nope, never heard of it, does it help with the coughing? BTW I have been back to the Drs over the last 30 odd years about asthma and there only ever seemed to be two medicines on offer.

I am on the Symbicort (red) smart system now and it works well for me.

Prior to that I was on blue and brown with Singulair tablets at night to help with coughing - moving from 3 to 1 med was great!

Now I only really get coughing when recovering from infection - like last night - otherwise the Symbicort controls things really well and I don't have a blue inhaler any more.

FWIW I have never been a 'wheezy' asthmatic and was diagnosed at 18 after having had lots of allergy meds throughout my childhood :)
