Has anyone had a lipoma- if so where? What did you do- have it excised. Do they know what causes them?

Yes. I had a very big one between my shoulder blades. I had it cut out under local (euugh) by the plastic surgery department. I have a neat scar, but it still looks like I've been stabbed!
I've got another one at the top of my shoulder now which I'm leaving. It looks weird and annoys me but not wanting surgery unless necessary. Not sure what causes them, they are non malignant fatty lumps.

Thank you

I had one on the back of my leg. I had it removed under GA. I now look like I have a zip on my leg. The op and recovery were straightforward and easy.

I have a large one by my shoulder blade. I'm waiting for an op. It'll be under a general as the consultant says it's too big for local.

I had an MRI to make sure it was what they thought it was - eg benign fatty tumour.

I had one on the top of my foot which almost disappeared after about a year.

Glad you've started this thread (not glad you have one, of course!) as I have just found one in my bum cheek. Blush

I have had one on top of my foot for about 20 odd years now, has never bothered me so have left it alone, often see people stare at it when I have sandals on but water off a ducks back and all that its harmless
I say leave it alone unless it was on your face I wouldn't be touching it

A lipoma is one or a few fat cells that just get larger and larger. No one knows why the switch on to get larger. Cancer is one cell that turns into lots of cells so different mechanism.

My husband has had several removed and has only recently stopped getting new ones , never had a problem with them and has had them all done under LA. I think its quite common to get more than one .
