Dh neck has swollen up on one side

It's like his glands have swollen all up.

He says his throat is sore and.he has a bad taste in his mouth.

I'm thinking tonsillitis

Any other ideas?

Should he go to out of hours doctors?

If it is only one side it might be an ear infection? Does he have a temp? If he does I'd be tempted to see ooh and see if he needs antibiotics, Monday morning is a long way off!

Personally it would never occur to me to consider a Dr, buy some NightNurse & throat lozenges, it should pass...eventually. Sorry that's not very sympathetic but is what I do in such circumstancesGrin.

Lapsed - that sounds like my mum.

Slap some cream on it and you'll be grand.

Have given him some max strength and will keep an eye. I've had a bad cold this week and it may be that working on him

May ring ooh tomorrow if not improved.

My dad has exactly the same. One side came up a few days ago and he got antibiotics from the doctor and the other side has come out today. My mums worried it might be mumps as apparently that's the sign my sister had when she was younger.

Unless he is properly ill with a high fever then he should be OK tucked up for an early night and some paracetamol.

Ever since I had a very nasty strep throat that hospitalised me some 15 years ago I now have my throat/neck glands come up at the first sign of a cold or virus.

Many Drs have told me its a sign the body is fighting off bugs. Rest and sleep and fluids usually assists the body the body to do this.

Hope he feels better soon.

I too had mumps at 16, though. Doc said I had a swelling behind one ear lobe top side of neck and that mumps is seldom both sides - only one, so that is how he diagnosed me. I did not feel unwell, just my jaw hurt as opening it to stuff it full of food. I was signed off for 2 weeks as infectious, but nobody else at home got it.
