CA125 Blood Test Results Elevated - Scan Tomorrow - Absolutely Terrified

I had a UTI since the beginning of the month the symptoms of which haven't budged, so the doc did a blood test and the results of the CA125 (Ovarian Cancer marker) have come back high and I'm having an urgent ultrasound tomorrow.

I've been on 3 separate antibiotics to kick the UTI in to touch so think that's sorted but am getting stabbing pains both in my right and left ovarian area as well as burning still (as well as being totally knackered and achy but that could be anything I guess...the lack of sleep through worrying and vast amount of antibiotics I'm on don't help at all).

I am just so so utterly terrified that they will find cancer :(

I don't know anything about this subject, but just wanted to say I am thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed for you. It is good they are speeding things along like this.

I have endometriosis and some massive endometriomas (blood filled cysts) on my ovaries. As such my CA125 tests are always high - cysts etc will always give a high reading so it's by no means a definite sign of anything nasty.

I am worried about ovarian cancer going undetected as I have so much going on "down there" but my last scan lady was lovely and talked me through everything at the time which was hugely reassuring, so maybe have a chat with yours?

Try not to worry, even if that's easier said than done!

Thanks Mamf74 - so was your scanner happy to talk to you? When I've had a scan in the past (was scanned and dx with adenomyosis a few years ago....holding on to the hope it is just something related to that) I've asked and they've always said "you need to speak to your GP for results"

Mine was great, tbh it was a Saturday morning so maybe she was just killing time . She showed me all round the endometriomas and explained why she knew they weren't regular cysts, or anything nasty.

Most are grumpy and officious though, so think I lucked out! Just explain your concerns and see how you go?

The high CA test could be down to the adeno too (am not a Dr though!), just know from conversations with previous gynaes that any CA test I have will always be skewed because if the endo so I don't have them. Adeno & endo are related so maybe it's the same?

I had something similar a couple of months ago. Low abdo pain and as part of the investigations had a CA125 which came back elevated. My GP spoke to a gynaecology consultant who said that, as a stand alone test, it isn't useful for diagnosing cancer as anything can cause it to be raised, including endometriosis, fibroids, menstruation and even IBS, so the risk of a 'false positive' result is high. He asked her to check some other tumour markers, which she did and they came back ok.
I still had a 2 week rapid access scan appointment, including a scan which was negative except for some adenomyosis which was a surprise - I at least expected fibroids as every other female in my family has had/has them! Because the clinic was a designated women's rapid access everything was done on the same day and I got the results there and then. I hope it's the same for you. It was horrible waiting and although I knew it was likely to be ok, in the middle of the night I would wake up shaking because I was scared. I really understand how you're feeling tonight.

Adenomyosis can be excruciatingly painful, as can endometriosis. I understand you're worried, hang in there, hope the scan goes ok.

Hi all, I ended up in A&E due to the pain and feeling dizzy, was admitted under gynae who scanned ovaries/uterus etc - which came back fine! Was incredibly relieved. They saw the adenomyosis, but i already knew about that.

Am now waiting for more test results and am rescheduling the kidney scan for next week (as I missed the planned scan due to being in hospital...and hospital only scanned one system), have lots of painkillers - but am at home and have had my worries about my ovaries eased so am much happier!
