I dont think its serious but its really irritating me. Have had it on and off for a few weeks now. I know its about to happen because i get a sinking feeling in my chest for about 2 seconds before i feel it suddenly thump.

What is it? Does anyone know? Meant to ask my GP today but had my mind on other things lol!

By product of stress ? Poor digestion ?

Whatever it is I would get it checked out pdq, your maj. Like tomorrow. You shouldn't have a thumpety heart !

jampots · 24/04/2006 22:59

could be an ectopic heartbeat - are you overtired? had too much caffeine or alcohol?

fastasleep · 24/04/2006 22:59

Do you think any meds you're on could be screwing it up? Is it in the leaflet? (Palpitations that kind of thing)? I'd definately mention it to docs, just to be sure.. (I think I would've forgotten today too though if I were you!!)

Ledodgyherring · 24/04/2006 23:00

I was going to say the same . Do you think it's your meds, did you increase the dose today like the gp said?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 24/04/2006 23:10

Thanks everyone.

Well, i probably ought to check the box lol! But when i looked briefly earlier - the dosage seemed to be the same so either the doc has cocked up or the pharmacist has. That aside, i havent taken this evenings dose yet so it wouldnt be the uppage (if thats a word Grin)

Will check side effects now. Am taking Sertraline - has anyone had this too then?

What is an ectopic hearbeat?

fastasleep · 24/04/2006 23:11

Sounds sinister ectopic doesn't it!

Ledodgyherring · 24/04/2006 23:44

Yes! I've been on Sertraline i got dizzy spells and palpatations on it.

Ledodgyherring · 24/04/2006 23:50

Also I noticed you take it in the evening. When my doc prescribed it to me i was supposed to take 2 tablets every evening then when I went back I told him I had bizarre dreams and one night was convinced the house was on fire and stood at the open front door butt naked and really confused . He apologised and said he was mistaken and told me they can give you weird dreams and that I shouldn't have been taking them at night! Shock this was in 1999 I stopped them myself as |I didn't like them.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 24/04/2006 23:53
Shock

It was i was taking them for anxiety and depression and I got by without them but unfortunately it has come back with a vengance and i'm now having CBT which has been amazing.

alexsmum · 24/04/2006 23:56

i get this! and it feels like i catch my breath at the same time.
really weird.it comes and goes.a couple of weeks ago i was getting it most days, and now i haven't had it for ages.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/04/2006 00:04

Oh no Ledodge! Glad CBT is working for you. It doesnt appeal to me, i tend to feel its utterly hormone/chemically driven. As odd a thing as that is to say.

OP posts:
Ledodgyherring · 25/04/2006 00:09

No it's not odd my sil had the same anxiety depression symptoms as me but hers is totaly hormone driven too. Mine I think is a bit of both PND and grief I never addressed my parents death at the time and it's come back to haunt me in all manner of ways Sad but i'm finally on the road to recovery Smile

Ledodgyherring · 25/04/2006 00:11

*totally

Spagblog · 25/04/2006 07:07

VVV sorry if it is odd explanation but I'm not medical - ectopic heartbeat is where a part of your heart becomes triggered to create the electrical charge that makes the heartbeat. There is a place called the SA node that initiates the heartbeat...If another place tries to initiate a heartbeat (poss triggered by drugs, caffeine or nicoteen) you will get a flutter or palpitation.

chapsmum · 25/04/2006 09:50

how are you now vvv?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/04/2006 14:54

thanks spagblog.

Im okay. Same as yesterday though.

could you be anaemic, symptoms include palpitations and breathlessness, just a thought

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/04/2006 15:19

That is quite likely mosschops, anaemia, that is.

Hi
Sounds like what I get - ectopic heartbeats, which from what I understand are heartbeats that beat in the wrong place (like an ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy in the wrong place). They're usually completely benign - just irritating, especially if you're trying to sleep, which is mainly when I get them.

I'm also permanently anaemic, despite taking tons of iron every day, so I'd probably go to my GP and ask that they check it out and do a blood test for anaemia?
