Being sick after surgery.

I was very sick after my op and I think its caused by the anesthetics.They used to give me an anti sickness injection daily whilst I was in hospital,but when I got home the sickness was still there but soon went away.if your op was recent it may be the same for you.

Very, very common .... happens to me every time. They will usually give anti sickness medication but if you're already home that's not so easy. Give them a call and see what they say.

Happened to me last week. Possibly worse as was on a morphine drip following surgery, and hadn't eaten for a few days so was vomiting green bile. Nice!

Had surgery on Monday & was given anti emetic. Still feeling very rough & nauseous today pretty sure it's anaesthetic - I'm always like this after surgery. Takes me about a week to recover.

Very normal, always happens to me. If he's still being sick tomorrow, you should call the hospital for advice as it should stop quite quickly. Hope he's better soon.

I'm always very, very sick - I tell them, and they are good at stopping it immediatly post surgery now but I then chuck once those drugs have worn off!

Yes, I've had anaesthetic 3 times and even after having the anti sickness drugs was really ill every time. When I broke my ankle, I couldn't walk to the loo, so had to have a commode. Every time I got up, I was being ill. So when I was on the commode I was weeing and puking at the same time!

Thank you all for replying, I think he had a morphine drip aswel. He's just tired now and doesnt look well. but hasn't been sick since I wrote this. He had an abcess remived from the crack of his bum 4 months ago and they didnt remove the infection so had to have it deeper and wider. He wasnt sick last time which is why iwas wondering. I've had to change and pack it 3 times since he's been out :/

Different anaesthetists use slightly different drug combinations, so it could be as simple as that or it could be the morphine. I always refuse it, as it makes me feel lousy. Hope he feels better soon. Sounds grim for both of you.

I was sick after both my surgeries (one CS and one gallbladder removal). I think it's quite a normal reaction to the anaesthetics for some people.

After the gallbladder op, I felt so sick I couldn't stand up and the horrible nurse was shouting at me to stand up and walk around so I didn't get DVT. I kept saying I couldn't and she kept on shouting. I stood up and threw up all over her. Which to be honest served her right for not listening to me.

sleepydeer A pilonidal sinus? I've had one of those. It was HORRIBLE. Your poor ds. Packing the wound (or rather unpacking it wach day) was extremely unpleasant.
Hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Clam I think it is that, after his first surgical procedure it burst every 3 weeks which is why they had to operate again. Hoping it heals properly now! I can only guess its painful, looks it!

Dr Hahaha, that's funny she deserved that! (Vomitting funny, not surgery!). Hope your ds is well now.

All my surgeries were in the 70s and 80s, and I was very sick, but the GAs are now much kinder. Had 2 x 20 minute procedures under GA in the last 10 years, also an Arthroscopy on knee under GA and had no sickness at all. Also had a morphine injection when coming round from knee op as I was crying out in pain < embarrassed face>.
