Stiches going wrong after child birth advice please :)

This is my very first post ever and sorry it's a long one :) And a little too much information.
Just wanting a bit of advice after giving birth to my first son on the 12th of December. After a very traumatic birth we ended up in theatre with either a forceps delivery or section. Anyway ended up with forceps and had to be cut quite bad, had Stiches which turned out to be by a trainee registra (sorry for spelling) was in theatre for about an hour n half. Which they didn't ask me if it was ok. There was the consultant behind her asking what she was doing and why. Anyway to cut a long story short been back n forwards to the hosptial with my Stiches completely broken down n with an infection just after five days of having him. Any way they've left it completely open with out Stiches n healing from inside out ...
Just a little bit worried because one I'm only young they said it won't effect the bedroom department but it looks horrid :@
Has any other mums been in a similar situation and what happens next. Will they re stich it to try n make it look normal or leave it? Xx

I am wincing on your behalf. A trainee registrar should surely still have been supervised with something so delicate. I don't know what the procedure to review and sort out would be now but you had every right to have complained. I would certainly bring this up with a healthcare professional if it still hurts or you feel your sex life is affected.

I'm not sure what they are planning and it's worth calling them to find out what they are offering to do but I didn't want to read and run. You're wonderfully strong to be putting up with that. I'm not a surgeon so I won't comment on what they'll do next but just as a fellow woman I would offer the suggestion that in addition you try to eat foods that help you heal (cut down on processed food, any artificial sugars, and eat antiviral things like garlic, coconut oil, elderberry cordial, basically everything that supports your immune system to give you the very best start even though it's been less than smooth sailing for you). I also wanted to say that any woman who has had a rocky birth (and even those who haven't) the lady garden looks less than lovely just after birth and to not worry, focus on getting the area healed. I hear that salt baths help too but brace yourself before you get in because it can be blumming hurt at first. Best of luck.

poor you - what an awful ordeal...i second the bath salts - had dd in the us where they give you a sits bath which you pop over the loo seat and can put a few bath salts in - good luck and i hope you feel a lot better soon. hope you've got some supportive family around making sure you're getting as much rest as possible etc.

Registrars are fully qualified to do all levels of stitching and all types of deliveries without supervision (& have to be before becoming registrars as they run labour ward with consultant at home) but sometimes consultants will come to assess them. If it was someone more junior than registrar the consultant should have explained this to you.

If stitching breaks down more than 48hrs after delivery you risk trapping infection & worst problems if you re-stitch. It's horrible having them left open but better long term. Lots of them won't need anything further doing & have no further problems but some people have pain with sex after healing & then you can have a further minor op after about 3-6 months to re-fashion it.

Like SoYo says, they let it heal up as much as it can, then do a refashioning about 3-6 months after. If its still having problems healing or is painful near the 8/12 week mark, get referred for this from your GP.
I had constant infections in mine, consultant told me to use Savlon in the bath, not tea tree oil or bath salts etc. It worked a treat.
