Bad cough and Sleepless nights

My ds is 7 mo old and has suffered an awful lot with one thing and another lately. On Thursday of last week he started coughing, the cough seems to be okay during the day and he seems to be able to handle it as it's not a lot. However at night it's a different story. He doesn't sleep for more than 2 hrs at a time and then wakes up coughing and coughing, he coughs until he goes blue sometime, or until he vomits. Then he screams and screams for anywhere up to 2 hrs. I've tried Trixylix, calpol - but am at a loss now as we've had no sleep for a good couple of weeks now and it's only getting worse:(

If you've tried everything else, then it's time for you to go to the doctors to get it checked out. You may need to give antibiotics.

ds is like this evey time he gets a cold. I was advised to raise the head end of the cot up and to use something like Karvol capsules.

Went to the doctor this morning, there is nothing seriously wrong with ds, he's just got a bad cold and cough. So am at a loss now. Have raised the bed, used Karvol, used baby vicks, tried the wet towel on radiator etc. Don't know where to go from here.
