Never ever give them an adult thermometer!

Very stupid today. Inserted a mercury thermometer into my nearly 3 year old dd's mouth. She seems so grown up now, I didn't think it would be a bad idea. She promptly bit the end off - crunching glass between her teeth. It was awful. Now, having been to A&E, we understand that it is not dangerous to swallow small amounts of mercury and we are praying that the glass she swallowed will not do any internal damage. Just thought I'd warn any others out there...

oh i remember doing that when i was about 8 years old.

hope she is ok (i was) tho i dont think i swallowed any glass!

Oh no!

Poor DD!

Think it's very easy to assume they're older than they are though and forget.

Am sure she'll be fine - the glass will no doubt be tiny pieces and it's very thin anyway - not like swallowing shards of the stuff.

How awful, that was a tense moment but what a relief to know the mercury will be ok. I go for the underarm option myself.

I did that when I was about 5 or 6 - just by sucking really hard on the bulb. I've been OK so far (40 this year....)
