Hello,

I woke up in the middle of the night with terrible period pains and thought that my periods had started again after 14 months since giving birth.

But there was so much blood that I soaked two towels and then when I got up this morning a mass of bloody gore came out. It felt a bit like passing my placenta.

I am still bleeding but a lot less and I'm in a lot of pain.
What is this? Is it normal to bleed like this? I never had bad periods before so am I just being a total wuss?

Sorry for the gross and rambling post but it's early and I'm a bit scared.

I was call NHS direct for advice, ongoing pain etc doe snot sound great, could be a infection.

Was teh bloody mass just a large blood clot, or tissue? Did you keep it?

MrsHowardRoark · 23/01/2013 07:25

We did keep it but I didn't look too closely. The first big mass was tissue and clots and in the last 10 minutes I've passed a couple of golf ball sized clots.

Sorry to hear you are going through this pain and distress MrsHowardRoark. I don't know but it sounds more than any normal period and as you are in pain and have lots so much blood I really think you should ring your GP when they open and ask for an emergency appointment or go to A&E. If it is a miscarriage they will need to do a scan to make sure and that you don't need a D&C. And with all that blood loss you may need medical attention. Best to get checked.

BouncyPenguin · 23/01/2013 07:32

After readin about the golf ball size clots I think you should go straight to A&E.

I would suggest taking a pregnancy test. They can stay positive for some time after a miscarriage. That may help you to find out the answer.

FWIW my first period after my DS was extremely heavy.

MrsHowardRoark · 23/01/2013 19:18

Thank you all for answering me and for your advice.

I just took a pregnancy test and unfortunately it is positive so it looks like I'm having a miscarriage.

My DP and I were only last night discussing trying for DC2. Now I just feel so awful that our tiny little baby is in the bin with all the rubbish.

So sorry Sad sending you a hug.

So sorry MrsHowoardRoark. What a difficult time for you. Sometimes when these things happen they make you realise what you really want. Your tiny baby is in your heart where it will always stay.
