More an injury than health issue - has anyone done this?

Earlier on, I was tidying ds1's room, picking bits up off the carpet. My hand scraped against something on the floor - don't even know what, it was such a minor scrape - but oh dear God! the pain!

Anyway, I looked down and one of the veins in my hand, near the base of the thumb, was huge. I mean massive. Maybe 2 cm across and bulging.

Dh said I had burst the vein and has bandaged my hand tightly. It does still hurt, but not as much as before and the real horror is the sight of it rather than the pain IYSWIM.

Does anyone have experience of this? Has dh done the right thing to bandage it so tightly my arm feels like it is going to drop off?

HELP!!!!

I have taken the bandage off. Big swelling on wrist and a linear red bruise. Whole of base of thumb has swollen up too. Can't believe one insignificant knock could do this much damage.

Thanks guys for sympathy BTW.

awch, sound sore, arnica is fab for brusing, but for tonight rest Ice elevation (lye on the couch with your hand raised above the level of your heart) and compression if it starts to throb again.

if you start to get pins and needles in your thumb you should get it chdcked out ASAP of phone NHS 24.

HTH

Thnaks for that info Chapsmum (I take it you are better now, I saw your illness thread a day or two ago). We did do the elevation thing and I put the old packet of peas on it initially so hopefully that has helped to make it less worse. The swelling is much worse than the bruising.

the bruising will come and dont be surprised if it does get worse that the swelling you need to give the blood time to change colour!!

Hope you are resting now DG. give me a nudge if you want to chat again. x
