Hi. I need some company tonight. I was diagnosed with tonsillitis tonight. The doc prescribed antibiotics - I've taken 2 at 8.30pm and 2 at 12.30am. I also took some co-codamol for the pain each time (1000mg/8mg). I just took 400mg of ibuprofen.

I'm so cold. I'm under a duvet, a fleece blanket and a cellular blanket. My throat is still agony. It's like swallowing glass.

The last time I felt this bad I had blood poisoning and ended up in hospital for 8 days. I'm worried about my LO (18 weeks). She's making a strange coughing noise since midnight. She is asleep in her crib with my husband in our bed. I'm in the spare room. I haven't slept yet tonight. I'm scared but feel stupid for being scared.

DH goes away overnight at lunchtime for his work. I just want to cry but it hurts to cry.

Hand holding needed. I know I'm being silly. I'm 35 fgs.

Not being silly. Night time is the worst time when you are sick.
Have you tried sucking some ice or an ice lolly. That might help with the pain in your throat. Also, get a hot water bottle.

I haven't tried ice, thanks. My hot water bottle is tucked up next to me though.

I'm all out of ideas then apart from, if you have aspirins, crush one up and gargle with it.

Have you checked your temp as you might be feeling so cold because your temperature is high. If it is take off as many layers as you can.

Nights always seem worse when you're ill they seem to never end
But 24 hours of antibiotics and you should start to feel a bit better. I agree ice can be soothing.

Is there any way your husband can postpone his overnight trip?

Just took my temp. 38.3 degrees.

It's a bit on the high side. Take all extra blankets off and hot water bottle. Can't remember if you said you'd had paracetamol but may be worth taking if you've not had any. You'll feel a bit more human if your temperature comes down a little.

Blankets are off.

I'm glad he's stayed it gives you the chance to get more rest and feel better quicker.

My temp is back up to 38.5 - can I take more tan the recommended dose of paracetamol in a day? It's the only thing keeping the temp down. I took ibuprofen as my last painkiller and it shot right up.

Anyone?

I wouldn't take anymore than the reccomended dose, give them time to work, drink plenty and get some sleep, you should feel a little better, have you any losenges to help relieve the pain ?

Very important are the Antibiotics, and you must always take them at regular intervals - usually 1, 4x a day or 1, 3 x a day. Only once for Laryngitis did I. have to take take 2 the first dose and then 1 for the rest of the doses.
The chemist will have written the drs instructions on the front of the box as to how many a day you must take. So, if 4 times a day, then you must take them every 6 hours on the dot. I even set my alarm for an early morning one. And take with plenty of water. If 3 times a day then every 8 hours.
And no, never exceed the daily dosage recommended for Paracetamol as previous post said.

They are 4x per day. I was taking them roughly apart but I'll be more precise.

Coming back to this late, do not take more than 8 paracetamol a day (4g), it's pretty well documented how daft that would be.
Can someone go and get you a local anesthetic spray for your throat?

Only take 4g of paracetamol on 24 hour period. Ibuprofen also world yo bring your temp down. You're probably better taking them separately. So take paracetamol and then 3-4 hors later ibuprofen that way when paracetamol starts to stop working the ibuprofen is in your system already. And agree with Rip an anaesthetic spray is useful something like Difflam. I always find a warm drink of lemon and honey soothing too and you can't overdose on that

Hi folks. Thanks for the advice. I have the Difflum spray. My temp is now staying down with both paracetamol and ibuprofen - no overdosing. I got up to take the antibiotic at 3am. I set an alarm but LO was up anyway I now can't get back to sleep!

Oh dear, 3am is an awful time and sorry you couldn't get back to sleep. I always start as I want to go on, So if 4 x a day, then 12 am and 6am, is my preferred regime. < 12 and 6pm in the day> That is how it worked out a year ago when I was on them.
Glad your temperature has gone down as that is very debillitating. Just your very sore throat to get better now.
