Hoping someone can help, Ive had a few episodes of central a bit to the right extreme pain in upper abdomen.

Last about 4 hours , usually in the evening.

Went to GP, referred for ultrasound, and I have one gallstone about 12mm in size.

My Gp is unsure if my problema are due to this gallstone as my pain isnt associated with eating fatty foods as you would expect,t any one had similar pain and a different cause found?

If they found a gallstone then it is probably gallstones that cause the pain. 12mm is over a cm and that is a pretty large stone. Even a little movement of the stone is going to hurt, and also there is a little fat in most food, even the 'non-fatty' variety.

I'm in the same boat just recently been diagnosed with gallstones too it doesn't have to be because of a fatty diet. Sometimes they can move which is horrendous omg the pain is unbearable. I would ask for a referral i am due to see a consultant on the 21st and I'm just gonna ask them to take it out because that is the only cure. I can not carry on living like this the pain when it comes is awful. Also ask your dr for some stronger pain killers

I had my gallbladder out 5 weeks ago. I had LOTS of stones. The pain started in July, and was just under my right breast, and the pain was a severe stabbing type of pain. It radiated across my back, in the region of where my bra fastens across the back (the shoulder blade area). It lasted for 3 days. I had nausea, but no vomiting. My own G.P. knew straight away that it was gallstones, as the symptoms were typical of that.

I immediately went on a fat-free diet, and I only had the pain whenever I had any fat.

I cut these things out of my diet:

ALL oils, butter, margarine, cheese
eggs
nuts, crisps and other snacks
curries and all other creamy sauces
all food with pastry, batter or breadcrumbs on
chocolate
cakes, biscuits, puddings
bacon, lamb and pork

I had skimmed milk in drinks and on cereals. I checked the labels on all packaged foods, and only had foods which contained no more than 5gm of fat per 100gm

I lost 2 1/2 st (35lb) in 4 months.

Since having my gallbladder out, I've gradually introduced SOME fat into my diet. I feel great, have no pain at all. My hair and skin are improved now, too.

If you research further you will see that a lot of people get their pain in the evening/night - not close to a meal time. I was diagnosed last November with multiple gallstones (misdiagnosed for several years) and am now in almost constant pain with them. I eat almost exactly as Tammyhiles has posted above. I would press for a referral - there are very long waiting times on the NHS and the sooner you get referred the sooner you will get treated. I am still waiting to see a Consultant (end of Jan) - originally was given one for early March but GP wrote to Consultant to say i needed to be seen urgently. Good luck.

I second that advice -- press for a referral so you are in the queue. A gallbladder can rupture and it is not pleasant.
