Ooohhhh you need charliecat for this one

flutterbee · 20/04/2006 16:46

I gave up in January and with her {and everyone on her threads} support I haven't had one since.

lucy5 · 20/04/2006 16:46

Look for the fag free few threads under health,., charlie is on there.

charliecat · 20/04/2006 16:48

yeah, give me your phone number and I will rant in your ear till your so fed up of hearing me you will stop smoking just to shut me upGrin
But seriously, tips from me are, make sure you still find 5 mins for yourself in every few hours, or you get yourself into a self imposed rage and go seeking a fag.
Be aware that its the best thing you could do for yourself, and your kids.
Do anything, but dont smoke....and come rant on MN when you need to. :)

It is possible, see there 3 of us here already :)
Oh and if anythings too hard and you cant concentrate on it, leave it, just walk away and go back to it when you are ready :)

I booked a holiday that if I hadn't have given up smoking I wouldn't have been able to afford, this just made me even more determined and the holiday was sooooooooooooo fantastic.

Also make sure you tell everyone you know and socialise with so that they can help.

scoobytwo · 20/04/2006 16:53

should i go on just willpower or patches too?
my mum has just given up after 40 years but she is poorly so i hope she keeps it up

Well I smoked for..oooer...from a kid to 24/25 I think, was heavy rollup smoker. Think fag ash lil, always with rollup in hand.
I finally managed to get off them in November 2004.woohoo, which is nearly a year and a half ago.
It took however about 2 years for me to finally get to that point, 2 years of stopping and starting and lozengers and patches and cold turkey. In the end \link{www.whyquit.com/this site here} filtered into my thick head and I got the fact that i couldnt ever smoke again.
And ta-da!!!!!!!!! Here I am. If I could, I would stop for all you quitters, as its bloody awful but I cant so I just cheer you on and try to keep you on the quitting path :)

charliecat · 20/04/2006 16:54

\link{www.whyquit.com\here is whyquit, dodgy link}

desperatehousewife · 20/04/2006 16:55

Alan Carr clinic - takes 4 hours, costed me £135 and was the best money I have ever spent. That was 7 years ago. No fags since. Was a doddle.

charliecat · 20/04/2006 16:56

The patches ease the rattling, as they are nicotine, however your not really away from the addiction as your still getting a fix....but give them a try, see how it goes...OR try cold turkry, see how that goes.
But at least with cold turkey you know where your at, and its such a nightmare you wont want to do it ever again :)

scoobytwo · 20/04/2006 17:24

charlie that is me-fag ash lil, roll ups lolnicotine stained fingers that i have to bleach

I replaced my usual fag with a cup of tea. It gave me something to do. I also used to go to bed really early in the first few weeks just so the day was shorter.
Good luck Smile I know it doesn't seem like it right now but it is worth it in the end.

TopBanana · 21/04/2006 16:40

You'll see a difference in the cravings after 3 days

rickman · 21/04/2006 16:45

79 hrs now. I've been going to bed ridiculously early, I'm also avoiding alcohol. Feel ok at the moment but it's nagging away in the back of my mind.

scoobytwo · 21/04/2006 16:47

rickman well done,how long/much did u smoke

OP posts:
Angeliz · 21/04/2006 16:48

I used to keep a few fags (I know you're not supposed to) but it felt better to tell myself that i COULD have one if it got too much. Then it never did but when i tried and had no choice, then i felt worse iyswim!?
Good luck!
It's hell at first!

Angeliz · 21/04/2006 16:49

Yes i'd go to bed very early too and read lots!
