Norethisterone help?

After light, clotty bleeding constantly for 10 months after having a copper coil inserted (and removed), my gp prescribed me norethisterone in the middle of December. I've just finished one 30 day prescription and he gave me another last week- i think he wants me to take it for 3 months in total.

It was working great and the bleeding soon stopped, but on Thursday I started getting very light breakthrough spotting. This has continued and today it's almost back to the level it was pre-December. The leaflet does mention spotting as a side effect of long-term norethisterone use-does 30 days count as long term?- but no one else seems to have experienced it according to Google... I'm wondering if I'm meant to take a break each month, like with a normal pill. The gp didn't mention it but I'm stumped!

I tried to contact GP on Friday and today but couldn't get an appointment or a phone call back- I'll phone again on Monday but until then I was wondering if anyone had experienced anything similar?

Sorry this is so massively long- didn't mean to write an essay!
