Decongestant/Sinusitis? (possibly TMI)

DD had Sinusitis over Christmas & had antibiotics & sudafed (5 days of each starting Christmas day)

Something is back - it seems very similar but instead of greeny, clear snot she has creamy opaque snot.

Should I just buy some more sudafed or is it a back to the GP job?

& I thought I could spell

Poor DD - I sent her to school for 2 controlled assessments & they sent her straight back

Went to GP in the end & got more antibiotics

Katy,dd,15 was off school for 2 weeks before xmas with sinusitis-really horrible and throbbing under the eyes and nose area.Thought it had gone at the end of xmas but it seemed to come back and like you,we had to go back and get more antibiotics again,She has gone back to school but tbh its only clearing up now-5 weeks later. Its a horrible dose and takes ages to clear.Hope your dd improves soon.

If she's old enough to manage it, I would consider getting her a neti pot to use in the future to prevent this happening again.

She is still really poorly after 3 days of co-amoxiclav

My dh has had lots of nasal surgery, and had pretty much permanent sinusitis for years....

Don't try Sudafed or similar, his consultant said they just dry everything up not clear it up. So they cab do more harm than good.

Dh uses a Neilmed nasal rinse, similar to the netti pot recommended above. They're all a great idea!

You'd also expect the ab's to be starting to work by now, can you give the doctors a call and see what they recommend?

I have chronic sinusitis related to asthma and allergies. I can't and don't take any decongestant medicine with colds, sinus flare-ups or allergies because the 'rebound' effect was almost as bad as the acute illness - and the efficacy of decongestants got shorter and shorter over a period of 3-4 months of turning to them regularly. I now avoid them completely. I use Sterimar nasal seawater spray night and morning, whether my nose is clear or not and every 2-3 hours if I get a cold and (fingers crossed) have avoided a horrendous sinus infection for at least a year. Google 'decongestant rebound effect' for some reliable info. Hope your DD gets better really soon. MPD

She uses Beconase daily & has asthma too

Is it just the nasal discharge/discomfort etc that is making her feel rough or is she still unwell in another way...? The lack of gross green snot suggests that the infection has gone - I wonder whether she has picked up something else viral that's making her poorly again and that might be why antibiotics don't seem to be helping...? It's also tree pollen time - deep joy - so if she's sensitive to tree pollen that also make things worse. Watch the nasal stuff - mine nearly always gets worse as a post viral thing and can be dreadful even after the mildest cold. It is miserable, but I'd definitely avoid all decongestants. Very occasionally, I take a one off dose if I have an awful bug and neeeeeed sleep, but I now think even one or two doses - for me at least - can prolong the whole thing. MPD

No - it hasn't gone it's just changed texture ie it was more pus like now it is more snot like (iyswim)

& this evening it has suddenly gone clear & she feels much better; I guess the antibiotics have kicked in
