thrush in 14 year old dd1

dd1 has been suffering with thrush now for nearly 3 months.
I started with her using Canesten and when that failed, I took her to the doctor who prescribed a gentle steroid cream which didn't help at all. I took her back this week and he prescribed a tablet (just one) and Clotrimazole which I believe is just the same as Canesten? Instead of improving,in the past day or so,it's actually got worse. I've arranged for her to have a swab taken this Friday but I'm actually becoming more and more worried about her.Can anyone give me any advice please

Didn't want to read and run, thrush can be successfully treated and wont cause her any lasting harm. Keep going to the doctor until it is. I suffered with it as a teenager too. On a practical note, does your DD wear pyjamas/ shorts/ knickers to bed? If so, she should swap to nightdresses/ big t shirt as wearing 'bottoms' to bed creates just the right environment for thrush to thrive.

Poor thing! I would just be relentless with the doctor - explain it's got worse and she's in a lot of discomfort and hopefully they'll give her something stronger. And yes, the more air she gets down there the better! And showers rather than baths.

Well,she's stopped wearing underwear for bed and she doesn't use any thinking perfumey down there.Just warm water ... she used to use babywipes but I've stopped from even using them now (which is a bit embarrassing for her,because now she thinks she smells down there aswell).I'm just so worried that it's something serious now.When they do a swab,what are they usually looking for?

Do you think she could be overdoing the cleaning? I know you say she no longer uses wipes and just uses water, but could she be using soap/wipes and you not know about it??

Also what about your washing powder/conditioner? And daft as it seems I once read that coloured loo paper can be an irritant as well; so just use white.

Poor thing. I think changes in diet can help clear thrush. In a rush but I'm pretty sure a sugary diet can make thrush thrive. Google it maybe and talk to her about it - it is difficult to know with a 14yr old what they're eating when out! But it might be something else that can help

I had it quite a bit when I was pregnant and it seemed to be down to keeping things a bit too clean.

I'm no expert but is it definitely thrush? In my limited experience it normally goes away pretty quickly, so I'd be wondering if it's not something else.

Probiotics and Acidophilus capsules can help - you can get them from Holland and Barrett. And try to reduce the sugar and crap in her diet immediately. I had bad thrush for 2 weeks over xmas because I was eating/drinking more crap than usual.

I would definitely go back to the gp - if she thinks she smells it can be a sign of another infection. If they do a swab they can tell if it is actually thrush or something else.
