Breast lump..

I know i may be getting worked up over nothing here, but reassurance would be gratefully appreciated.

I've been having odd problems with swollen lymph glands (negative test for glandular fever) and right boob for @ 8 months, went back and forth to GP, and finally had an appt with a breast consultant last Thursday.

Have had right nipple being sore and itchy, areola periodically looking inflammed, and shooting pains up into armpit.
I convinced myself it's hormonal as am peri meno, but during scan the consultant found a lump previously undetected, immediately above my nipple. He thinks its nothing horrendous and said i should have a mammogram to be sure.

This morning i've received a mammogram appointment for Wednesday, so now i'm flipping out because it kind of looks a bit urgent..

Please tell me i'm being daft as i've no RL support here

You are being daft in a totally normal way.

Mammograms are usually issued quite fast, especially if asked for by a consultant. IME (which is limited to 2 or 3 consultants over the years, admittedly) a breast specialist will not say they think its probably nothing horrendous unless they really do think that. And they see a LOT of lumps, so usually they are right.

I had loads of weird boob stuff during peri-meno, and all turned out to be benign. But needless to say it caused me a few extra-fast white hairs each time.

Oh thank you Elibean! i'm very relieved you can confirm my suspicions re. being daft, and youre right, the consultants know their lumps.

I didn't realize all this can come with the glorious package that is peri meno, they didn't bother to put that down as a possibility in the bloomin' instruction booklet for living as a female.. buggers!

I do feel better for just reading your post, i'll stop being such a paranoid
plonker, and amuse myself with wondering how they're going to squish my non existent boobage between the 'shelf' thing and plate.

I always worry they'll need to design and manufacture a bigger machine to fit my boob.

I'm glad we don't haveto wait longer than Wednesday. Do tbey tell you results on Wednesday or afterwards?

Says it'll take up to 3 weeks for the result, a bit long i reckon considering.. the consultant left it that he'd write to me.. do you think thats a good sign?

Yes, Yes, I have to concur with Elibean - they know how much stress is caused by worry, so the system supports really quick appts for breast clinics. It's very, very, normal and also normal to worry.

Yes. You may beabke to get letter emailed from secretary. Ask on Wednesday.

I am relirvedyou are bring seen to. As Elibean said the Consultant ordered your appt. They have a lot of power...its quick.sticks when they speak, no.messing.

No not really worried about the procedure, i know they'll squish me and it'll hurt a bit.. I've had worse at that hospital.

I'm more concerned about the 'no antiperspirant' element, i'll be sweating like a pig - hope the person sat next to me on the bus journey home has a really blocked up nose!

As far as I know you can use roll on anti p -but no talcum powder as it can show up as specks on them mammo. But if they've said no deodorant follow their advice rather than mine
Lots of good luck -the speed of appoointment is normal and the consultant would be unlikely to say something wasn't horrendous if he wasn't pretty pretty sure. Still,it;s an unnerving time and the waiting isn't fun. If you need additional hand holding do pop to the tamoxifen thread as we've all been through such things

That's funny - I've not heard of being told not to wear anti - p to a mammogram only for the weeks and weeks in a row you are having daily radiotherapy. I wonder if that's a common request?
