Why has this changed after so long? (TMI alert!!!)

So, my periods have been regular as clockwork since I had DS 5 years ago. It's always the same - one day of massive bleeding (literally a Tampaz Super every hour and a half) followed by 2 days light bleeding.

This month, it's all gone haywire - day 1 was some fairly light bleeding, and I'm now into day 4 of period with 3 of those days having been extremely, extremely heavy. What is going on? It's not possible for this to be some kind of chemical pregnancy/MMC unless immaculate.conception is possible!

Any ideas?

This happened to me when I was 16. Soon after that my mother hauled me to an ob/gyn and I was diagnosed with PCOS. I would suggest that you speak to your doctor. I had my first child last year without any treatment, so be rest assured that not all cases of it are as bad.

It could be perimenopause, which can go on for years before 'proper' menopause, ie completete cessation of periods. My periods began getting heavier and more erratic after ds3 born - I was mid-late 30s - now 51 and things are now tailing off, thankfully.

No pun intended with 'tailing off'.

Thanks all - very annoyed at having to re-evaluate everything after being such a routine for so long. I don't like not knowing what's happening! may make an appointment with GP.just to be sure.
