Don't give up giving up Charliecat (sorry, sounds really patronising, like some dreadful govt health campaign!) I gave up 6 years ago and it's one of the best things I ever did! How long have you been off the fags? Stick at it, it gets much easier and you save ££££££.

Take care.

notasheep · 18/04/2006 20:32

charlie-i am still about! Have been away for some of the Easter Holidays and getting on with life not smoking

Hello. I'm trying again, so if you need someone to shout out, I'm available.

It's been about 26 hrs now. Not feeling too bad, had a headache and felt sick last night so went to bed really early, ok today so far.

teacups · 19/04/2006 15:51

Keep at it rickman! You will be doing yourself soo much good. How are you doing it? Willpower? Allen Carr? I found the Allen Carr method really worked for me when chewing gum, patches, willpower etc failed.

You have done more than one whole day now. I would take each day at a time - it does get much easier, promise

Cheers X

rickman · 19/04/2006 16:01

I have read Allen Carr before but I'm going on willpower at the moment. Still feeling ok apart from the headache. I have given up before, for 6 years, god only knows why I started again. I just keep repeating that I don't want to be a smoker forever, therefore I have to give up sometime and it may as well be now!

charliecat · 19/04/2006 16:23

Oerrrr rickman WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have now stopped, you now need to keep telling yourself that the only way to stay a nonsmoker is to never have another fag. To have one, or half of one WILL lead back to you smoking. So you cant, and you wont. And sooner than you know it you will be cheering on other smokers to join you :)
Remeber to take 5 mins away from the kids every couple of hours of you become like a pressure cooker waiting to boil over. Deep breathes, nice perfume and once again well done :)
Im proud of you and your kids would be too if they knew what you were doing for them.
It is the best thing you can do for yourself and them.

Can you put your fag money in a jar and then buy yourself a treat at the end of the week / month with it? I found it really helped in addition to the Allen Carr stuff. Kind of "i've got to the end of the week - no slips - AND i have an extra £20 to spend". Made me feel I was making progress.

Headache could be the nicotine leaving your body - think how fab you will feel in a couple of days!!

You go, girl ! Keep in touch!

Started again Sad. Was doing so well (3 months on lozenges), but just lost the oomph.

patkica · 20/04/2006 12:30

Hope you don't mind me butting in, but I can really relate to this. I've been off the fas for 4 months now, after 20 years. Have given up before, but this is it. It's been hard, but not as bad as I thought it would be. What helped me the most was imagining what it must be like to be an alcoholic or a junkie. I reckon it's similar. I know that it's prefectly possible to have a great time and to get through life easily without booze and drugs, just as my non-smoking friends always told me that it was perfectly easy to live life without fags. It's the same thing really. Does that make sense?

rickman · 20/04/2006 12:53

Well I'm still coping. 51 hrs now. Haven't had the massive wobbly I had last time, so fingers crossed I manage ok. Well done patika. Try again evansmummy.

charliecat · 20/04/2006 12:55

whyquit.com goes with that theory patkica, well done rickman :):):):)
