Period type pains inbetween periods - any ideas?

Hi all,
This is now driving me mad. AF finished about 2 weeks ago and, for the third month in a row, I've got period pains / aches again. Argghh, I'm spending half the year wondering if AF is going to come early - so far it hasn't, just these phantom pains. Anybody get any idea what they may be or has anyone had similar?

Could it be ovulation pain? Sounds like the right time. I get dull periody type aches int he middle of my cycle too.
If you google 'Mittelschmerz' you'll find something easily.

Though if it's that bad, I suppose it could be endometriosis - someone will no doubt be along soon who can help.

Honor - I've been getting these too, although I've put it down to being on the hormone coil (mirena) and my system being messed up as a result.

I had wondered about ovulation pain. At the risk of sounding incredibly daft...what is endometriosis?

I have pretty bad ovulation pain. Worse than my period pain.

HonorMatopoeia · 16/04/2006 14:44

I also had no idea ovulation pain was called Mittelschmerz (thank you Pruni!) I've googled it and it sounds about right but can go on for much longer than 48 hours...perplexing! Not on any form on contraception like the coil so can't attribute pains to that.

HonorMatopoeia,

I initially thought of endometriosis as well being a possible cause for pain mid cycle.

The four classic symptoms of endometriosis are:-
painful periods
deep pain during sex
pelvic pain (continuous or cyclical)
subfertility

Other symptoms or signs that can occur include:-
heavy periods
pelvic mass
bowel symptoms
bladder symptoms
cyclical pain

In general, any symptoms that are cyclical in nature, and that get worse during menstruation may be due to endo.

It is in your interests that the cause of this pain is properly determined. Don't put up with it!. I would urge you therefore to consult your GP with a view to getting a referral to a gynae for further evaluation.

Couldbe ovulation. I started getting this when AF came back after ds1. Mine were really bad - far worse than period pains.

I would put any money on this being ovulation pains. I have had them for years now, came in handy when i wanted to try for a baby AND when we wanted it to be a girl. Worked too hehe That was 9 years ago.

I don't think it was ov pain as the ov test showed negaive. Perhaps it is the dreaded af coming early!

HonorMatopoeia · 09/05/2006 19:41

Sorry ladies, just checked this thread again and noticed you were here Blush. Thank you for all the info attila, I'm due for a dreaded smear test mid cycle this month so am going to mention it to the nurse and see if I can't get it looked into, if it is Ovulation pain then fair enough I suppose, but I'd hate to suffer if it was something they could help me with! as I yelled loudly in childbirth...I DON'T DO PAIN!!!!!!!
