Not sure whether this is flu?

Started feeling quite anxious and a bit breathless on Christmas day, developed into a cough by the evening, the last two days have felt very tired achy, sensitive to touch - even getting into a hot bath made my skin hurt. Have felt shivery and also tingly but not tingly all over. Cough has worsened and have had headache. Been on ibuprofen all this time and cough medicine but feel no better. Appetite has been a bit off but have eaten.

Today have been sneezing but not massively and my eyes hurt when I move them.

Any suggestions for what medication to get please?

I can recommend day nurse. Two tablets three ties and day, and if you can get a full nights sleep, top might nurse tablets at night. It has seen me through not holds and flu in the past, and allowed me to function a little!

thanks Olivo, will try that

Went to chemist and stroppy pharmacist said I wouldn't be walking if it was flu! says it a viral infection. Said I can't take night nurse with ibruprofen. Fab.

Hmmm, wonder what it is in night nurse that doesn't go with ibuprofen? I thought it was just paracetamol, and an antihistamine that makes you drowsy. Did you manage to get something? Flu like symptoms are crap Hmm

Everyone I know has this at the moment, its not very nice. My children needed antibiotics to clear the cough.

Steam your face over some hot water with some Olbas Oil and take lemsip every 4 hours.

You wouldn't be typing on here if it was the flu, sorry.

Hope you feel better soon.

Canyouhearme, I have exactly the same symptoms atm and it is horrible although agree with alloverit - it isn't flu! Flu leaves you totally incapacitated, I've had it twice and I literally couldnt do anything at all except lie juddering in bed hallucinating.

wildirishrose · 28/12/2012 18:14

I agree AllOverIT, I have only had Flu once I slept for 5 days solid.

I have had a "flu like virus" according to my Gp this morning thats left me with a chest infection. It's made me feel rotten with aches, a temperature as well as a stinking cold & cough & really bad pains in mu shoulders & legs. Lots of fluids, regular small meals & rest, rest, rest. I hate asking the pharmacist anything, I never end up with anything I want, they always say I need to go to the gp & what I want from the chemist wont help. Helpful & honest but the problem is normally I cant get a doctors appointment thats why I'm at the chemist! II got an appointment today only because I have asthma & my breathing was really bad. Day nurse has paracetamol in it so couldnt take it at the same time as ibuprofen, I think it has pholcodeine cough supressant & a decongestant. Why not by the cough stuff & decongestant separately & take alongside ibruprofen if you prefer that. I have been alternating paracetamol & ibruprofen so I can get more than 4 doses in a day, ibruprofen works much best for me though. Hope you feel better soon x

Hi, been asleep on and off. Took a sudofed and continued to feel very rough but the coughing seems to have subsided, so stroppy chemist was right in that the fluid was all going on to my chest. Not sneezing that much or blowing nose though. Head still feels like it's in a vice and have only just managed to toss the duvet off me after being under it, rads on and the woodburner!

I'd hate to get the real flu if this is anything to go by. Roundabout I think it was something to do with paracetamol but tbh I was pretty much out of it and didn't really know what I was doing in there!

Qo, are you any better now? I'm not but the cough has subsided but now feel sickly. Horrible don't know what to do with myself feeling. Haven't really eaten all week (last meal Christmas dinner) and still keep getting that creepy buzzy feeling over my skin. Have had really bad night sweats too, literally wet through and very thirsty all the time.

I did think I was better this morning and went out to the shop - big mistake, felt worse than ever and have been really grotty for the last few hours.

Yep. It's in Wales too. On the plus side, it's the christmas holidays and we aren't losing days of work or school - or worse, having to go to work or school when not even vaguely near 100%. And secondly, no christmas fat for us!! Ha ha. Rest, rest, rest.

qo · 01/01/2013 17:51

Nope its STILL lingering, muscle aches and complete lethargy. AND I have to go to work tomorrow :(

digerd · 01/01/2013 21:46

OP " creepy buzzing feeling in your skin". I had that and when I took my temperature it was way too high. Always have a thermometer in your house.
